Frequently
Asked questions

Technical Solutions
What’s the difference between pressure-independent and pressure-dependent control valves?
Pressure-independent control valves (PICVs) automatically maintain a set flow rate regardless of pressure fluctuations in the system. Pressure-dependent valves require a consistent upstream pressure to function properly, making them more sensitive to system dynamics. PICVs simplify balancing and improve efficiency.
Can your pre-insulated piping be used in both chilled and hot water systems?
Yes. Our pre-insulated piping systems are designed for a wide temperature range and are suitable for both chilled and hot water distribution, including underground installations.
Do you offer expansion compensation options for long hydronic runs?

Yes. We supply expansion joints, anchors, and loop configurations to manage linear expansion in both underground and above-ground piping applications.

What flow rates and ΔT ranges are your balancing valves designed to support?

We offer valves covering a broad range of flow rates: from fractional to high-capacity systems and support typical delta T ranges in hot and chilled water loops. We’ll help match the correct valve to your system requirements.

Are your products compatible with glycol systems?

Yes. Most components we represent are compatible with glycol-water mixtures. We can help confirm materials and concentration limits to ensure proper performance and longevity.

customer service

How quickly can I get a quote?

Most quotes are returned within 24–48 hours. For standard or repeat items, we may provide pricing the same day.

Do you offer contractor pricing or volume discounts?

Yes. We provide tiered pricing based on order volume, project scope, and product type. Send us your drawings or BOM for a tailored quote.

What information do I need to provide to get a complete and accurate submittal?

Please include project name, spec section reference, flow requirements, application type, and any product preferences. Detailed info helps us respond quickly and accurately.

What’s your typical lead time for stocked vs. non-stocked items?

Stocked items are often available within a week. Lead times for non-stocked items vary but generally range from 2 to 8 weeks. We’ll confirm lead time during quoting.

Can you help me value-engineer a spec if a product is unavailable?

Absolutely. We often help teams identify alternate solutions that meet specs and project timelines, while keeping cost and performance in balance.

Maintenance & Support

Who do I contact for field support or troubleshooting?

Contact your JD Sales representative or our main office. We’ll coordinate with manufacturers as needed and provide direct support when possible.

Can you assist with startup, commissioning, or site visits?

What warranty support is available on products you represent?

Most products carry warranties between 1 and 5 years. JD Sales will assist you in processing warranty claims and coordinating with manufacturers.

Can you help diagnose a flow or pressure issue in an installed system?

Yes. We’ll help evaluate your design, troubleshoot issues, and work with manufacturers to resolve performance problems when needed.

Resources

Where can I download spec sheets, CAD files, or BIM models?

Many resources are available on our website. If you don’t see what you need, contact us directly and we’ll send it.

Do your products meet Title 24 or LEED compliance requirements?

Yes. Many of our product lines meet California energy codes and LEED criteria. We’ll help you document compliance.

Can I get a list of all your manufacturers and line card?

Yes. Our full line card is available online and can be emailed to you as a PDF upon request.

Do you have a guide for designing with pre-insulated pipe?

Yes. Contact us for a detailed guide including installation instructions, trench design, and best practices.

Lunch & Learn

Do you offer in-office or virtual Lunch & Learn sessions?

Yes. We offer both formats. Sessions can be tailored to your team’s needs and schedule.

What topics do your training sessions cover?

Topics include pressure control, system balancing, pre-insulated piping, district energy, and more. Custom topics available.

Are your Lunch & Learns accredited for PDHs or CEUs?

Some sessions are eligible for professional development credits through our manufacturing partners. Ask us for details.

Who can attend your sessions: engineers only, or contractors too?

Both are welcome. We tailor each session to the audience: technical detail for engineers, install insights for contractors.

How do I schedule a session for my firm?

Contact us directly or fill out our Lunch & Learn request form online. We’ll coordinate content and scheduling with you.
