OUR HISTORY

J. D. Sales Company was founded in 1972 by Jim Shillady and Doug Kerby. Both Jim and Doug served in the Korean War and went on to become formally trained engineers. Although Jim hailed as a Spartan from Michigan State, and Doug was a Wolverine from the University of Michigan, the friendly rivals decided they would get along for at least 364 days of the year in order to build their new company. They proudly set up shop from a small office near LAX on Manchester Avenue.

Fourteen years later, a matter-of-fact young engineer, by the name of Mahendra Mistry arrived in the United States from Great Britain and joined J. D. Sales. Jim immediately observed Mahendra’s work ethic to be as fierce as his engineering knowledge and took the young man under his wing, mentoring him to become a great sales leader.

By the time Jim and Doug retired in 1995, Mahendra was the clear successor to usher J. D. Sales into the future. As the new owner/president, Mahendra relocated J. D. Sales headquarters to Torrance, CA where he invested the next few decades building this company to its present day. His genuine excitement and energy compelled his wife, Padma and two sons, Umesh and Kishan to also join the company.

Nearing its 50th year, this family-owned and operated small business is embracing the future with open arms. Mahendra cheerfully mentors his young and eager team as they carry on the daily operations, steadily growing this company upon its solid foundation.
